Different degrees of effort for a similar outcome

Today I had my 6 month dental cleaning at the UofA dental clinic.  Two years ago I started going there as a requirement for my BMT transplant.  Because full body radiation and chemo impacts your salivary glands, there is more work that is needed to be done to maintain my dental health.  My night time routine takes over an hour.  Floss, waterpik, electric brush with special toothpaste, wait 30 minutes, fluoride rinse, wait 30 min, disinfect mouthguard, then after mouthguard is in place, add a xylimelt tablet to my gum to improve saliva production during the night.  Finally bedtime!  I actually use this time as my meditation time, bonus!

Since my last appointment, I added the waterpik because the other steps were just not enough.  I was so excited to get my cleaning done because I was sure it was going to go quickly.  My hygienist said it was a great improvement since my last visit and then proceeded to take forty five minutes to do my cleaning.  My excitement was slightly dampened even with the positive reinforcement but out came another learning experience.

Can a dental cleaning have any relationship to Kung Fu?  It sure did for me.  This was just another example of how an outcome can require different degrees of effort by an individual.  Everyone's body is unique so it takes different efforts and different activities to reach the same end point.  Nothing you can about it but do the work and enjoy ANY step of improvement.  Embrace your uniqueness!

NUMBERS:  I lost my journal during our move and then I did not track any of my numbers so starting from Monday Jan 7th with my physio exercises.

  1. A while ago I almost wrote a blog about kung fu and dental hygiene too! This makes me want to revisit the idea, great minds think alike ;)
