Year of the Dragon

Wow!  What a start to the year of the Dragon!

First, given the honour to help dot the lions was surreal and so humbling.  It was an experience I will cherish forever.

Second was being able to attend the banquet and see everyone’s hard work pay off.  The blackbelt speeches were amazing. The demos were perfect.  The children demos were the most impactful and I laughed and cried.  Being honoured with the Blackbelt of the Year was so unexpected and it still hasn’t sunk in.  It was a great night!

Third was meeting Elizabeth on Tuesday. I was at the Cross and was coming out when I saw here.  She was struggling coming down the ramp with her walker so I walked with her, chatted with her, helped her load her stuff into her vehicle but it was what we chatted about that stuck.  Even after a day of treatment, she had treats for her grandsons who were coming home from school shortly.  Usually she had someone with her but today she was alone so I wanted her to know that someone is always there.  She was thinking of others even during her trying times.  She was an amazing grandma, mother, patient and a new friend.

Fourth, I started to return back to work after being off for 2 years.  It’s a slow process but my first two partial days went very well and I’m excited to continue.

There were many other things that happened this week but these were a few highlights so if the Year of the Dragon continues like this, I will be holding on with both hands but enjoying the ride!

See you on the mats!
